[shadow=black,left,300]Alex's short steady steps walked through the path of the Rose Garden, a place she hadn't explored many times before, but it was never too late to start. She would have never admitted it, but it was rather gorgeous. White, red, black, and many other colours of roses surrounded her, as the moon hit down on her, leading her way across the darkness.
Alex's long blond hair fell down her shoulders, her emerald green eyes sparkling softly. She continued walking on, expecting to see no one as she continued on her little journey. Like every kid at this school should have been doing, they were probably all tucked into their beds sleeping away. Never did it cross her mind that someone would appear by her side, though she did feel like she needed some kind of entertainment. For the time being, at least.

Ashley was out and about on yet another early morning sleepless walk. Most of his nights as of late had been occupied with restless thoughts and questions concerning his most imminent future. Ashley had never been one for the power struggles going on within the Slytherin house, but over the course of the past few days, he found himself being slowly pulled into the middle of it, or at the very least on the outskirts. Natalie had shown a very unhealthy interest in him, or maybe it was healthy, it just all depended on the direction one viewed it from. Anyway, back to the story at hand....
Dressed in a pair of faded blue jeans and a green long sleeve tee, Ashley moved through the garden, his hand half into his jeans pockets and his gaze directed somewhat upward into the sky. He wasn't too interested what the garden had to offer, no, he just happened to find himself lost out here and seeing as how he hand never really been here, he just decided to wander about for a bit. With a heavy sigh, he happened to glance forward, catching site of someone familiar yet rather vague, making a scrunched up face as he thought. "Glad to see I'm not the only one who can't sleep," he called out, making sure to announce himself, after all, this was a school for paranoid and wand happy wizards.

[shadow=black,left,300]Alex could feel footsteps coming closer behind her, but that didn't stop her from continuing on the path. Fear didn't rise in her, she didn't jump, she didn't look back. Nothing happened. The girl simply continued walking, even when she heard a voice come through her ears, apparently of the person behind her.
"Who said I couldn't sleep? Ever heard of sleeping pills?" Alex called back out, her head turning around slightly just to see who was behind her. The boy looked familiar, but she couldn't recall if she had met him or not. It didn't matter to her though, that wasn't going to change anything. She turned her body over to face the boy, as she suddenly stopped walking. Eying him up and down, she waited to see if a response would slip through his lips.[/shadow]

"Ouch," Ashley said in response to Alex's rather smart response, feigning a hurt look in the process, "Someones a bit testy tonight aren't they?," asked, a slight smile slipping across his face now. His steps slowed, making sure to give himself plenty of room to react in case this meeting of happenstance went very wrong, very quickly. His fingers moved against his wand which was hidden in his pocket, mostly out of instinct, for Ashley wasn't one to really draw his wand unless he had to do so. He was a duelist at heart, but that didn't mean he solved everything with magic, no, he wasn't too much of a show off, for he rather liked staying on the outside edge of the spotlight instead of standing directly in it. Dueling was the only thing in which he ever excelled in and the only thing which he ever showed of in, but then again, he only did that in matches or when he had no other choice and talking wasn't an option to save him.
"Your in Slytherin aren't you? Pretty sure I've seen your face around the common room," he said as he stopped and squinted his eyes, trying to place the girl before him. He knew the face, vaguely but her name was a total mystery, strange for Ashley for he usually prided himself for knowing all the ladies in Hogwarts.

[shadow=black,left,300]Alex rose a brow slightly when he said ouch and she stared at him for a moment before answering, “Get use to it, it’s not just tonight.” She said, her tone rather cold. She noticed the smile that was slowly spreading across his lips, as her eyes began to adjust to the dark. Alex’s brow lowered as her emerald eyes met the boys. Alex didn’t even think about the wand in her back pocket, she hadn’t even bothered to wear her robes, those was just pathetic in her point of view. But, if she was going to need it, the girl was prepared. She was no expert but her parents had taught her plenty. This boy didn’t seem like any harm though.
“Yes, and proud. I’m assuming you are as well.” Alex said, suddenly realizing it was rather obvious. “Alex. Alex Demon.” She introduced herself, her voice not fading away from the cold tone that had been placed upon it. She ran her hand through her long blond hair, brushing a piece out of her eyes.[/shadow]

Well, the girl had the snotty attitude down pat and the way she carried herself showed she was out for number one and number one only, another Slytherin trait. She wasn't really anything special, or at least she didn't appear to be, but then again neither did Ashley. While some within house Slytherin strove to stand out amongst their comrades, there were a few (like Ashley) who chose to keep himself on the outside of the spotlight, choosing to reap the rewards of an easier lifestyle. This of course didn't mean Ashley was lazy (albeit maybe just a little) it just meant he wasn't quite as success oriented as some and that he was satisfied with the small rewards he earned....or stole.
"Ashley Rand...," he said with a slight smile as he slowly began to strafe Alex, moving around to her side, giving himself the advantage of position if things moved to the less 'talkative' side and more toward the wand drawing and spell casting side. This small act of course, was done almost out of instinct without Ashley even thinking about it, after all, he was a dueler at heart and given his track record with one Natalie Bane, well, he was a bit jumpy.
